Twin World Tourist Awards Boost for Cambodia

PHNOM PENH – Cambodia has received two World Travel Awards as Asia's Leading Culture Destination Award 2022 and Asia's Leading Youth Travel Destination 2022.
The awards ceremony was held at the ITE HCMC 2022 International Tourism Fair in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, on Sept. 7.
An estimated two million tourists from around the world took part in the election of Cambodia as Asia's leading cultural and youth tourism destination.
Thong Rathsak, director-general of tourism development and international cooperation of the Ministry of Tourism, said that international tourists have increased by 580% in the first eight months of 2022 to nearly a million under the strategic plan on vaccination tourism and the road map on to restore and promote tourism during and after COVID-19.
Other countries that have received this award include India, Japan, Thailand and Vietnam.
Rathsak said international travelers can visit Cambodia with visas on arrival, which were free for ASEAN travelers.
Fully vaccinated tourists can enter Cambodia by showing the COVID-19 vaccination card and tourists who are not vaccinated just need to take a quick test.
“Cambodia is a safe tourist destination, providing warmth, clean and green,” Rathsak said.
Rathsak expected that participation in the tourism fair will help attract more Vietnamese investors and tourists as Vietnam is Cambodia's second largest market with 189,782 visitors for the first seven months of 2022.
The event marked the 29th anniversary of the International Travel Awards held in conjunction with the ITE HCMC 2022 International Tourism Expo under the theme “Growing Forward Together”.
Vietnam was nominated this year in seven categories: Asia’s Leading Destination 2022, Asia’s Leading Sustainable Tourism Destination 2022, Asia’s Leading Heritage Destination 2022, Asia’s Leading Cultural Destination 2022, Asia’s Leading Nature Destination 2022, Asia’s Leading Youth Travel Destination 2022 and Asia’s Leading Beach Destination 2022.
