PHNOM PENH--U.S. Ambassador W. Patrick Murphy has urged Cambodia to make “a little more progress” in restoring democracy and human rights as he reflected on the country’s achievements over the last two decades.

The ambassador made the comment during the reception event organized by the USAID Thursday night.

In his remarks, he offered words of praise for Cambodia’s strong economic growth of 7 percent annually.

“We are watching Cambodia move up the economic ladder of prosperity,” Mr. Murphy said.

He said the United States is proud to be a partner working with Cambodia to help ensure that “this prosperity does not leave anybody behind.”

The ambassador, however, urged Cambodia to make “a little more progress” in respect to democracy, human rights, rule of law, reconciliation, sustainable growth, environmental sustainability and protection of the country’s sovereignty."
