PHNOM PENH – The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has set out seven mechanisms to help keep prices stable for farmers during the harvesting season.

Ministry Secretary of State Yong Saing Koma and director-general of the General Directorate of Agriculture Ngin Chhay discussed the issues with authorities and agriculture communities in Banteay Meanchey, Battambang and Pursat provinces.

They will maintain the price stability of the paddy rice for the farmers during the harvesting season, Koma said on Nov. 8.

The first resolution will focus on storage of the harvest to make it convenient for transporting. Officials will work with the mills to supply the rice for target areas and facilitate transport.

The ministry will also promote the harvesting locations among the mill owners, purchasers and farmers.

The rice price will be updated and promoted daily during the harvesting season, the secretary said, adding there will be a Telegram group to exchange information.

The ministry encourages stakeholders to pay more attention to buying the pure variety of pka romdoul rice – Cambodia’s rice ranked No. 1 in the world – more than the normal varieties.

The ministry also urges the farmers to grow the fragrant rice 01 in the upcoming dry season, which will contribute to building this pure variety for export and the national rice sector.

Agriculture Minister Dith Tina says he is committed to resolving the challenges and seeking more markets for agricultural products by continuing to implement the policies and the National Rectangular Strategy-Phase 4 and Agriculture Development Policy 2022-2030.

From January to October this year, Cambodia exported 3.3 million tonnes of paddy rice, worth $800 million, to neighboring countries and exported around 530,000 tonnes of milled rice to 49 markets, generating about $377 million.
