PHNOM PENH—Cambodia has opened its first private commercial center in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), to promote its potential products in the Gulf state, said a news release by Cambodian Ministry of Commerce on Tuesday.

Tekreth Kamrang, secretary of state of the commerce ministry, presided over the inauguration ceremony of the Cambodia Private Commercial Center in Abu Dhabi on Sunday, the news release said.

The event was also attended by UAE officials and representatives of Oneroad Group, which exported the first batch of Cambodian milled rice to the UAE last month, it added.

"The Cambodia Private Commercial Center in Abu Dhabi is established to promote and export Cambodian products to international markets," Kamrang said.

"It is also to disseminate documents related to Cambodia's trade, economy, investment, culture, and tourism to traders, investors, and international tourists, especially from the UAE," she added.

Trade, investment and tourism relations between the two countries are still relatively low. The two-way trade was valued at 86.8 million U.S. dollars in 2023, a year-on-year decline of 17 percent, according to the Cambodian Ministry of Commerce.

On the tourism side, the Southeast Asian country received 192 UAE visitors last year, an increase of 56 percent from 123 in the year before, said the Cambodian Ministry of Tourism.

In an effort to boost their bilateral trade and investment ties, the two countries signed a free trade agreement in June 2023.
