PHNOM PENH – Cambodia has received two awards from the prestigious World Travel Awards (WTA), including Asia's Leading Cultural Destination 2023 and Asia's Leading Youth Travel Destination 2023.

The cultural award was given to Cambodia for the second consecutive year. Another six countries were shortlisted, India, Japan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam.

The Ministry of Tourism said on Feb. 28 that this remarkable achievement reaffirms our country’s attractiveness as a must-visit destination for those who are fascinated by culture.

Prime Minister Hun Manet also congratulated Cambodia on his official Facebook page.

Laos, Thailand and Vietnam were also evaluated by the WTA for Asia’s Leading Youth Travel Destination 2023.

It was also the second year that Cambodia has achieved this award. The first one was in 2022. Laos won it in 2019 and 2020 and Thailand in 2021.

Asia’s Leading Cultural Destination was awarded to Vietnam in 2019 and 2020 and Thailand in 2021.

The World Travel Awards was founded in 1993 to recognize, honor and celebrate achievements in all significant areas of the travel, tourism and hospitality industries.

In 2023, Cambodia received 5.45 million international tourists, up 140 percent from 2.27 million in 2022, according to the Tourism Ministry.
