PHNOM PENH – Phka Romdoul, the Cambodian rice that won the world’s best rice award in 2022 is being promoted from Oct. 7 to 11 at the Anuga Food Trade Fair 2023 in Germany. It is the first time Cambodian rice is being exhibited in this over-100-year-old fair event.

The Commerce Ministry has led eight Cambodian rice import-export companies to showcase the country’s products at the fair in the city of Cologne, Germany.

The eight businesses include Golden Rice (Cambodia), Kampong Thom Rice Mill, Signature of Asia, Primalis Corporation, Gcity Rice Import Export, Amru Rice (Cambodia), Lor Eak Heng Sek Meas Rice, and Eang Heang Import Export.

Established in 1919, the Anuga Food Trade Fair has become an important forum for policymakers who specialize in food and beverage. The fair is held every two years, in a massive 2,840,000-square meter facility that comprises 11 halls. Over 7,900 food companies from 200 countries display their products.

Cambodia’s Phka Romdoul rice won the world’s best rice award in 2022 at the Rice Trader’s World Rice Conference in Phuket, Thailand. It was the fifth time that Pkha Romdoul won the award, after already being crowned world’s number one in 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2018.

From January to September 2023, Cambodia exported more than 450,000 tons of milled rice to 57 countries, generating over $327 million. Such a volume represents 65 percent of the target set by the CRF, at 700,000 tons for 2023.
