PHNOM PENH  – Eh Phou Thong, president of Eh Phou Thong Boxing Club, has spoken about his excitement after winning the Best Coach Award from the Khmer Boxing World Championship Techo Santepheap.

“I'm really happy. This is the first time I have won this award. It’s a great encouragement for me to put my efforts into promoting our Khmer martial arts,” he said.

The award was given on July 16. Phou Thong, who said he had won a number of trophies and awards, thanked the fans for supporting him.

He said he had won the award because the fans loved him and that he would not have won it without them.

Eh Phou Thong started his boxing career in 1990, first competing in the 54kg weight category under the guidance and coaching of his uncle, Say Yuth Phu Thong, coach of the Kun Khmer boxing club in Prey Veng province.

From 2000 to 2012 his dominance in the sport made it hard to find opponents, either local or international. At the end of 2012, he decided to end his career as a Kun Khmer boxer and become a coach.
