PHNOM PENH – Fish producer Cambodia Fresh Farm is seeking to export raw tilapia to international markets next year.

Cambodia Fresh Farm supplies aquatic products to local supermarkets and restaurants. By implementing Japanese aquaculture and hygiene technologies, tilapia can be eaten raw.

The farm, which includes a processing plant in Phnom Penh and a breeding farm in Kandal province, covers 4.5 hectares with a total of 21 ponds.

Owner Chao Soursdey said that over this year, the farm had  put all its efforts into implementing breeding criteria set by the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Fisheries Administration of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF).

“I earnestly hope that tilapia will be exported to international markets by 2024,” he said.

“Fresh tilapia, tilapia fillet fish, smoked tilapia, nangoku dai, and smoked fish are now distributed in supermarkets and restaurants. Fresh tilapia and tilapia fillet can be eaten with sashimi.

“Our tilapia can be raised to maturity in six months, with each then weighing between 500 and 600g.”

The farm has received support from UNIDO under the Value Chain Investment Support program under the CAPFish program, which aims to support 28 fisheries enterprises in modernizing their business operations, enhancing job creation and increasing profits.
