PHNOM PENH — Former Thai Prime Ministers Thaksin Shinawatra and Yingluck Shinawatra attended Prime Minister Hun Sen’s birthday celebration on Aug. 5.

As could be seen on Hun Sen’s official TikTok account uploaded on Aug. 5, he welcomed the former prime ministers at his residence in Takhmao city where he was celebrating his 71th birthday with his family.

According to a report issued on Aug. 6 by Fresh News, both former prime ministers stayed at Hun Sen’s residence until their departure from Cambodia on Aug. 6.

In spite of incidents and tensions between the two countries, it is believed that Thaksin Shinawatra’s pro-business foreign policy in the region was received warmly by Hun Sen’s government, which helped forge ties between the two countries in the 2000s.

Yingluck Shinawatra, who is Thaksin Shinawatra’s sister, became the first woman prime minister of Thailand following the 2011 national elections in that country.
