PHNOM PENH — The Cambodian government announced that the 32nd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games foreign sports delegations and athletes wishing to visit the Angkor Archeological Park will be given free tickets to do so.

Prime Minister Hun Sen on May 15 instructed the APSARA National Authority, which manages Angkor Park, to make this happen. However, the free ticket policy will not include sports fans.

Still, Cambodia has covered the expenses for food and accommodation of all foreign athletes, coaches and sport delegates; has put in place a “free entry” policy for all spectators at all events; and offered live broadcast rights to all local and overseas television networks covering the 32nd SEA Games and the 12th ASEAN Para Games.

As he was addressing APSARA, the prime minister took the opportunity to thank the Southeast Asian countries for supporting Cambodia and sending their delegations to take part in the SEA Games.

Hun Sen on May 15 was speaking at the graduation ceremony of more than 3,000 students of the Royal University of Agriculture, the Prek Leap National College of Agriculture and the Kampong Cham National Institute of Agriculture in Phnom Penh.

As he told the students, the country hosting the SEA Games has been a success, adding that Cambodia is not focusing on winning or losing but on welcoming and the happiness of the people of the sports delegations who have taken part in the event. Which will represent a valuable legacy for Cambodia’s future generations, Hun Sen said. "Hosting the SEA Games event does not belong to the [leading political party] CPP but to the nation as a whole," he added.

During his speech, the prime minister also thanked the Chinese government and its people for entirely providing the more than $150 million required to build the Morodok Techo National Stadium for the SEA Games.
