PHNOM PENH – Hun Sen, now acting as caretaker Prime Minister, says he will not try to influence decisions by the new government which will be led by his son.

“I would like to emphasize here that we are not trying to influence the decisions of the Prime Minister or the ministers of the institutions, We will not try to influence the decisions of the Royal Government," he said.

However, decisions should not differ from the party's policy promises to voters, which are to implement those policies to lead to progress.

Speculation has been rife about the direction of the new government after Hun Sen hands over to Hun Manet this month.

An article in Australia’s Lowy Institute think tank newsletter says that after dominating Cambodia for so long, Hun Sen will continue to dictate politics.

Hun Sen said he is still the CPP leader and would be Senate president for the new mandate.

“The older generation has not yet left politics,” he said.

“I am still the president of the ruling party, accompanied by four vice presidents, along with several other members of the central committee, some in the National Assembly and some in the Senate.”

He said his working habit was never to order ministers to do this or that. He would give them the independence to make decisions.
