IDP Education Plans to Open Additional Branches in the Provinces

PHNOM PENH — The global education service provider IDP Education is looking into opening provincial branches in Cambodia in addition to its offices in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap city.

According to a Facebook post of Prime Minister Hun Manet on March 3, Tennealle O’Shannessy, chief executive officer of IDP Education Ltd, mentioned this to him on Mar. 3 during his visit to Australia for the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit, which took place in Melbourne.

Thanking the Cambodian authorities for supporting the IDP Education, O’Shannessy said to the prime minister that  the organization will continue cooperating with the relevant institutions while running the Australian Centre for Education (ACE), which offers in the country English- language courses and programs recognized internationally.

Thus far, IDP Education has provided consultations and facilitations for studying abroad—including in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States—to 1,500 to 2,000 students every year.

Plans are to open branches in Battambang, Kampong Cham, Kampot and Preah Sihanouk provinces, and in Poipet city of Banteay Meanchey province, O’Shannessy said.

According to his Facebook post, the prime minister welcomed these expansion plans, adding that IDP Education contributes to enhancing the education sector and human resources in the country, and especially English proficiency, which remains important in the digital era to connect with people in business and socially across border.

In addition to program for students, IDP Education provides training, exchange programs and scholarships for Cambodian government officials and military officers, Manet pointed out.

During their discussion, the prime minister urged IDP Education to work with the relevant institutions, especially the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports, to look into future training programs, particularly on digital technology.
