PHNOM PENH – Indonesia’s trade with Cambodia has soared in almost a year leading it to jump from Cambodia’s twelfth to sixth-biggest trading partner.

Latest data shows trade was worth $862 million as of October, up 11.7 percent, and is expected to surpass $1 billion for the first time by the end of the year.

Trade was worth $948 million last year.

On Nov. 22, Commerce Minister Cham Nimul met Indonesian Ambassador Santo Darmosumarto to discuss ways to strengthen trade.

Cham Nimul proposed a joint working committee to enhance communication and improve coordination among authorities.

This dialogue between the ministry and the Indonesian business community would recommend solutions to business challenges, remove trade barriers and simplify business procedures.

“As the year 2024 will mark the 65th anniversary of Indonesia-Cambodia diplomatic ties, I hope to see these two countries jointly host events to advance trade, investment, and tourism cooperation,” the ambassador said.

He also spoke of concerns of Indonesian companies in Cambodia but acknowledged that these might be resolved by more coordination, cooperation and consultation.
