Japanese Investors Seek Business Opportunities in Cambodia

The meeting was organized by ACLEDA Bank and the Japan-Cambodia Association on Nov. 20.

PHNOM PENH – Thirty Japanese companies have met representative from Cambodian companies, seeking opportunities to invest.

The meeting was organized by ACLEDA Bank and the Japan-Cambodia Association on Nov. 20.

The investors were from small and medium enterprises in technology, school, marketing, commercial, vehicle repair and maintenance, agriculture, real estate, finance, health and tourism.

In Channy, president and group managing director of ACLEDA, said the meeting was to create opportunities for Cambodian investors to find partners with Japanese companies.

“This meeting was a chance to show the potential of Cambodia to international investment,” he said. Such a meeting would be organized annually.

“Japanese have three million companies, of which 99% are small and medium enterprises,’’ he said.

During the three years of business matching meetings, many Japanese companies had decided to invest directly in Cambodia, while others had partnered with local companies.

In addition, the Japan-Cambodia Association planned to set up its office in Cambodia soon to facilitate investment and trade between companies of the two countries.

Japan is Cambodia’s fifth largest trading partner after China, the United States, Vietnam and Thailand.

During the first 10 months of 2023, trade between Cambodia and Japan reached more than $1,500 million, of which Cambodian exports were worth $975 million and imports nearly $530 million.
