PHNOM PENH – The Royal University of Fine Arts (RUFA) will run a free Khmer folk dance course for the public from Jan. 20 until Feb. 24.

Chen Borey, an official of the Faculty of Choreographic Arts, said this is the second time the course has run. The first was in early 2023, when nearly 100 people aged 16 to 40 years enrolled.

The university is looking forward to seeing 50 to 100 people enrolling in the second course.

“The purpose of this course is that the leaders of RUFA intend to see Khmer people know how to dance Khmer folk dance properly. Those dances include Romvong, Rom Kbach, Saravan and Lam Leav,” Borey said.

“We offer this opportunity to those who are willing to learn and those who do not know how to dance. This course will enlighten Khmer people to know whether Khmer folk dance is difficult or easy to learn.

“We also want to see more Khmer people know about various majors in our university.”

Borey said RUFA plans to teach this Khmer folk dance every year if there are no serious social issues.

Learners will be divided by age which makes it easier to teach and and lets them learn more quickly.

Classes will run every Saturday from 9 to 11am. Registration will close on Jan. 20. Those interested can register via Telegram on 097 799 934 4, 012 697 780 or  070 784 808.
