SIEM REAP – The Tourist Transportation Association (TTA) for Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport has defended its taxi and minivan prices amid criticism that it charges tourists too much.

Association president Kim Phally said the cost from the airport in Sotr Nikum district to Siem Reap city is not high in term of distance.

The association has the license to transfer passengers from the airport to the city. It costs $35 per trip for a minibus with fewer than seven seats and $40 for an 8-15-seat minibus. The bus fare is $8 per trip and $15 for the round trip.

“From Banteay Srei to the city costs $40 for 37km but from the airport to the city we charge $35 and it’s 100km for the round trip. This price is reasonable,” Phally said.

However, his association would consider reducing the price if there are complaints from international tourists.

He said that the association also considers the safety of passengers. Thus, not it uses only cars and doesn’t use tuk-tuks.

The taxi service is operated by 330 TTA members.

The airport in Ta Yaek village is under the management of Angkor International Airport Investment. It cost $1 billion to build and covers 700 hectares.

It has operated since Oct. 16 and will be officially inaugurated in November.
