PHNOM PENH – Six Cambodian students who are stuck in Khartoum, Sudan’s capital, will be evacuated while fighting has been raging in the city for a week between the regular army and para-military forces.

Explaining that he had just received the information about their presence in the city, Prime Minister Hun Sen said he is worried for their safety and is working on finding a way to evacuate them.

The prime minister said the six Cambodian students are likely to be tagged along when Malaysian authorities evacuate their citizens from the capital. Nevertheless, the timing is unclear at this stage.

“Senior Minister of Special Mission Othman Hassan will continue to follow up closely with the situation,” he said at the inauguration ceremony of religious achievements in Preah Baromei Vongkat Borei pagoda on April 24.

As deadly fighting between forces loyal to two rival generals is raging into a second week, foreign embassies have started to massively evacuate their citizens and paused their operations in the capital.
