Six Students Awarded Scholarships to Study in Singapore

PHNOM PENH — Six Cambodian students have been awarded scholarships to study at secondary and pre-university levels in Singapore.



The recipients of the ASEAN Scholarship Award for the 2024 academic year are Chan Mengmonichesda, Houy Hollyvan, Ketyarath Sopanh, Kim Channchesda, Kuy Kokwing, and Ung Helen.



According to a press release issued by the Embassy of Singapore, a ceremony was held at the embassy on Oct. 6 to congratulate the students. “The award is not just an accolade,” Singapore Ambassador Teo Lay Cheng told the students during the event, according to the press release. “As you commence a collective journey towards a bright future, I hope that you will remember to apply the knowledge and experience gained to serve your country when you return…To the parents, your unwavering support, sacrifices, and guidance have played a pivotal role in nurturing these brilliant young minds.”



Adding that education was not just about textbooks and exams, the ambassador expressed the hope that the students would take the opportunity to understand different cultures and form abiding friendships during their stay in Singapore.



The Scholarship is valid for four years from Secondary 3 to Pre-university 2 levels. Students will graduate with the Singapore-Cambridge GCE A-Level certificate, or similar qualification.



Last year, three Cambodian students were awarded the scholarship.
