Solar Plant and Gold Project on Investments List

PHNOM PENH – The Council for the Development of Cambodia has approved five companies’ investment projects worth more than  $82 million in total.



The projects include solar assembly plants and gold mining businesses and would create about 2,000 jobs.



On Aug. 31, Certificates of registration were issued for investment projects of KITATSU SOLAR (CAMBODIA) CO, LTD; KHEMUNIK HOSPITAL CO, LTD; SAMANEA CO, LTD; LATE CHENG MINING DEVELOPMENT CO, LTD; and HEN JIU GARMENT ACCESSORY CO, LTD.



The first company plans to set up a $23.4 million solar panel assembly plant in Kandal province’s Ponhea Leu district. The project will create 637 jobs.



The second company will build a 150-bed hospital on National Road 21, Takhmao City, in Kandal province with an investment of $23 million, creating 458 jobs.



The third, is an $18.2 million development project for Koh Svay, Koh Mtes and Koh Kok, in Sangkat Kep, Kep province with a possibility of creating 60 jobs.



The fourth company will operate a $13 million gold mining business in Sandan district of Kampong Thom province, creating 300 jobs.



The last company’s project is to establish a garment and yarn factory in Khan Kamboul, Phnom Penh, with $5.1 million of investment and creating about 463 jobs.



According to a  Ministry of Commerce report from January to May, ten companies were producing and installing solar panels in Cambodia.



Ung Dipola, head of the General Department of Mineral Resource at the Ministry of Mines and Energy, said on Aug. 9 that the ministry had given licenses to eight Indian and Chinese companies to explore and open gold mining business sites.
