PHNOM PENH — A million and a half low-income and vulnerable people are to get vocational training help starting this year, the government says.

Prime Minister Hun Sen announced the move in a message commemorating the 6th National Day of Technical and Vocational Education Training on June 15.

“This training will provide opportunities for them to acquire knowledge and skills that will assist them to land a job or run their own business and to meet the needs of skilled labor for new investment in Cambodia,” he said.

In the last five years, 300,000 trainees have been trained and have landed a job or run their own business, earning more income for their families and boosting the economy.

In 2022, 89,878 graduates of trainee programs at all levels found employment and earned more money than unskilled workers. Those who ran their own businesses created jobs for others.

The Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training has signed a memorandum of understanding with 230 private companies to work together to provide skills training.
