PHNOM PENH – A pilot operation of the Bakheng Water Treatment Plant phase I was due to start on the evening of April 21.

Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority (PPWSA) said the operation would supply clean water for people in Chroy Changvar district.

However, it said the water would be dirty for a short period.

With a capacity of 390,000 cubic meters per day, the project was agreed by the PPWSA and VINCI Construction Grands in 2019.

The project was divided into two phases, with a production capacity of 195,000 cubic meters for each phase.

PPWSA said the construction contract was around $156 million in total, with a subsidiary loan of $136 million from the Ministry of Economy and Finance that was funded by development partners Agence Francaise de Development and European Investment Bank and the PPWSA’s $20 million.
