Women’s Basketball Opens Para Games with a Win

PHNOM PENH – Cambodian women’s wheelchair basketball team beat their Laotian opponent in the opening match at the 4th Asian Para Games in China.



The Cambodian side score a comfortable 65-35 victory in the 5x5 discipline at Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre.



China, Iran, Japan  and Thailand are also taking part in the discipline.



The Cambodian team will meet Japan on Oct. 20 before taking on China on Oct. 21.



The Games open officially on Oct. 22 and will run to Oct. 28, featuring 22 sports and 564 events.



The National Paralympic Committee of Cambodia has sent 24 athletes​ to the competition in volleyball, women’s wheelchair basketball, swimming, athletics, table tennis and boccia. 



The women’s wheelchair basketball team has been expected to perform well with officials having high hopes to win a medal.
