PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia will hold a 10-day "Angkor Thanksgiving" event, featuring traditional and religious ceremonies as well as performance arts, an official said on Tuesday.

Long Kosal, deputy director general of the Apsara National Authority (ANA), said the event will be held from Dec. 7 to 16 at the Angkor Archeological Park in the northwestern Siem Reap province.

A religious prayer ritual will be held on Thursday in front of the famed Angkor Wat temple to inaugurate the festivities, according to him.

Events in the following days include important religious programs and exhibitions of achievements made by the ANA in preserving the cultural heritage at the Angkor Archeological Park.

"There will be a parade of more than 1,250 students under the slogans 'Thanks Angkor' and 'Thanks Peace'," Kosal said in a news release. "All the spectacular programs will be open to the public free of charge."

According to the official, this is the third year for the ANA to organize the event.

The 401-square-km Angkor Archeological Park, inscribed on the World Heritage List of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1992, is the kingdom's most popular tourist destination.
