PHNOM PENH - Cambodia's anti-drug police have arrested a gang of five people for allegedly trafficking illicit drugs, confiscating 4 kg of narcotics, the Anti-Drug Department (ADP) said on Friday.

The suspects -- three foreigners (two men and one woman) and two local men -- were apprehended on Monday during raids on two locations in Kampong Speu province and Sihanoukville.

"A total of 4 kilograms of ecstasy, methamphetamine and crystal methamphetamine (ice drug) was seized in the suspects' possession during the crackdowns," the ADP said.

The Southeast Asian country has no death sentence for a drug trafficker. Under its law, anyone found guilty of trafficking more than 80 grams of illicit drugs could be jailed for life.

According to the ADP, Cambodia nabbed 12,356 drug-related suspects, including 254 foreigners, during the January-August period of 2023, seizing 2.62 tonnes of narcotics.
