PHNOM PENH – Due to the influence of a high-pressure system in China extending south to Cambodia with moderate to strong northeast winds, temperatures are expected to drop from Dec. 21 over the country.

The thermometer will go below the 15-degree Celsius mark in the Northern and Northeastern provinces.

From Dec. 21 to 24. morning’s minimum temperatures will hover around 15-16 degrees Celsius in Mondulkiri, Preah Vihear, Oddar Meanchey, Ratanakiri and Pailin province, said the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology.

In Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Siem Reap, Pursat, Kampong Thom and Stung Treng provinces, minimum temperatures are forecasted to be around 17-19 degrees Celsius.

Minimum temperatures in Phnom Penh and other provinces will be around 20-23 Celsius.

On the sea surface, moderate wind will blow from the northeast with waves rising to 2 meters, the ministry said.

“With this cold weather, the public should be more cautious, take care of their health and wear warm clothes to avoid getting any diseases,” the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology reported on Dec. 18.

Son Saroeun, Director of the Mondulkiri Provincial Department of Information said the cold weather in the next two days is not a big issue for local people.

“As the average temperature for this province is around [these levels], people here are used to cold weather already,” Saroeun said.

“However, we still informed people to protect themselves against the temperature changes.”

Saroeun said cold weather will attract more tourists to come as they find bonfires more favorable when they visit here.
