PHNOM PENH – Nang Socheat is the only student to get grade A from Phnhy Meas High School. An outstanding student, Socheat also won 10 golds, 16 silvers, 10 bronzes from over 30 competitions. His tip? Rest and eat before the exam.

Socheat from Takeo sat the grade 12 exam, commonly known as Bac II, last year.

Now he’s studying as a full scholarship student at American University of Phnom Penh. He is taking two majors, information technology management and computer science. He will get certificates from AUPP and from Fort Hays State university in the US when he graduates.

The Bac II exam is the major test for many students after 12 years of education and another step for further education or a career. Such an important exam has made students stressed out, fatigued and anxious.

Socheat said students should mind they eat or drink before exam day. He said that taking care of health, both physical and mental, is very important.

“The night before the exam, you should get enough rest. You have spent almost the whole year studying, be confident in yourself,” he said.

He said that the examinee should avoid studying everything in running up to exam day since it makes them more nervous and lose confidence.”

“Instead, you should spend a little time looking at the most important and necessary notes to remember more and increase confidence,” he said.

On examination day, Socheat said students need to arrive at the exam center early and not forget material necessary for the exam such as blue pens and rulers.

“A thorough preparation will allow you to concentrate on the exam without distractions,” he said.

Another important preparation is to avoid any meal that may cause discomfort during the exam.

“During the exam, it is important to focus and calm down. Read introductions carefully and clearly. It is better if we take a watch and bottle with us,” he said.

“Do exercises carefully one by one. Be confident in your ability and do your best by applying what you have learned in school.”

Socheat said this exam is just one step in the study journey and no matter what the results, be proud of yourself.

The Grade 12 exam will take place on Nov. 6 and 7. A total of 137,412 candidates will be sitting for the exam across the country.

Results will be released on Nov. 28 in Phnom Penh and Kandal province. Other provinces will get the result on Nov. 29.
