SIEM REAP – More than 100 fighters will compete in the 4th World Kun Khmer Championship in Siem Reap province from Nov. 26 to 28.

They include 50 Cambodians and more than 60 foreigners from 15 countries, said Vath Chamroeun, secretary general of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia.

“Kun Khmer is present in 60 countries around the world. There are about 5000 trainees,” he said.

He said the event will be in three levels. The first is sport competition, which mean the organizers have to obey the rules of international fair play in games.

The second level is professional and the third is semi-professional in which the fighter is equipped with protective equipment covering areas such as the head, chest and ankles.

Chamroeun said the registered countries include France, Russia, Kazakhstan, Japan, Vietnam, Myanmar and Laos with ages from 13 upward.

Chamroeun said four countries took part the first time the competition was held, with almost 10 countries joining the second and third times.

“It increases year by year so we need to keep organizing this competition,’’ he said.

During the event, Cambodia will sign memorandum of understanding with Russia to bring competition and kun Khmer to Russia.

Participating countries will hold a congress on Nov. 25.
