PHNOM PENH – Ly Chantola has been re-elected as the President of the Bar Association of the Kingdom of Cambodia for the 14th mandate. He ran unopposed.

The election took place on Oct. 16 at the 27th General Assembly of the Bar Association.

It was the first time there was only one candidate running for president.

Tola was first elected as president of the bar for the 13th mandate, which ran from 2020 to 2022. He will now serve until 2024 for his second and last mandate.

The 44-year-old lawyer said that the fact no contestants competed against him showed the love and support of his colleagues for his activities and leadership. They wanted him to continue to lead the association.

He added that having a single candidate also demonstrated unity and solidarity within the bar.

Tola promised to continue to lead the association in accordance with the policies that he set out during his first term.

“The only goal is for the excellence and prestige of our legal profession,” he said. “Please join us for the excellence and prestige of our legal profession.”

Justice Minister Keut Rith noted that the fact there was only one candidate to run for president of the bar association was unprecedented and could be the result of other lawyers’ observation of Tola’s achievements during his first mandate.

Tola has been practicing as a lawyer since 2008 and is also a senior member of the Legal Council of the Council of Ministers.
