PHNOM PENH – Prime Minister Hun Manet has set out four key factors for quality education for the new academic year.

Students returned to school on Dec. 1, the date for implementation of one priority in the Pentagon 1 strategy - enhancement of quality of education, sports, science and technology.

Hun Manet said the important factors involved schools, teachers, students and families.

Schools have to ensure a clean environment for students and teachers and be more effective in management and leadership.

Managing funds to support teaching is also the main responsibility of schools, he said in a message to mark the start of the academic year.

Teachers should be more committed to developing their skills regularly and find effective teaching methods.

Students need to be physically, mentally and emotionally positive and have enough time for learning. Schools in rural and disadvantaged areas should have nutrition programs, meals and scholarships available for students.

However, some potential challenges have negative impacts on students. These include migration, lack of child care and child labor.

Therefore, families need to play an important role with financial and mental support for their children to pursue education.

To implement accelerated learning successfully this academic year, Hun Manet called for collaboration and active engagement from the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, educational institutions, teachers, parents, students, relevant ministries, NGOs and news media.

Hun Manet said without the dedication of teachers, educational staff, private sectors, NGOs, and philanthropists, the education system could not have achieved this success.

“I am looking forward to seeing further support and good collaboration in investing for the development of young individuals,” he said.
