Second SEA Game Torch Relay Held in the Philippines

PHNOM PENH – A Torch relay was carried out on March 27 in the Philippines to celebrate the upcoming Southeast Asia Games (SEA Games) and ASEAN Para Games, which will be held in Cambodia next May and June.



The torch relay started early morning in the streets of Tagaytay, around 30 kilometers south of Manila, and was attended by Phorn Pov, the Cambodian ambassador to the Philippines, Abraham Tolentino, the chairman of the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC), and Michael Barredo, the chairman of the Philippine Paralympic Committee (PPC).



Hor Sarun, the special envoy of Cambodia SEA Games Organizing Committee (CAMSOC), led the torch relay that started at 7 a.m. in the Philippines (6 a.m. in Cambodia). The celebration was also joined by the country’s most famous athletes who will come to compete in less than two months in Phnom Penh.



The torch was relayed in 15 different locations in a 3-kilometer relay, starting with the Cambodian ambassador Phorn Pov who passed it to Abraham Tolentino who was succeeded by Michael Barredo. Filipino athletes then finished the relay.



The Philippines is the second country receiving the torch relay in ASEAN after Vietnam. The next relay will be carried out in Brunei.



In 39 days, the 32nd SEA Games and the 12th ASEAN Para Games will be hosted by Cambodia. The events will be held from May 5 to 7 and from June 3 to 9 respectively.
