PHNOM PENH -- The Ministry of Post and Telecommunications has set Takeo province as the role model for a digital technology development project for students, citizens and officials.

The project aims to build a digital society in the fourth industrial revolution, Minister Chea Vandeth said at the launch of the Digital Skills Development Program on Oct. 2.

“Next week, I will join the inauguration of a digital technology center in Bati district of Takeo province,” he said.

“I will set the whole province as the role mode of this digital technology development.” He would target other provinces after the success in Takeo province.

The ministry said that by 2024 there would be at least 20 digital technology skill centers in Takeo province for high school students through online classes taught by teachers in Phnom Penh.

The ministry has already organized the E-learning platforms with the cooperation of other ministries for teachers who have been trained in the skills.

The ministry would build the centers outside the high schools if the relevant ministries/institutions did not cooperate with the project, Vandeth said.

The project will also welcome the local people, including farmers, to learn digital technology skills.

“If the farmers do not know how to make online payments, purchases, or public services, we have a room to welcome them to study,” the minister said.

The project is one of the implementations of the Cambodia Digital Economy and Society Policy Framework 2021-2035, which focuses on citizens, government and digital businesses to boost the economy and public welfare.
