PHNOM PENH – Two Vietnamese were sent to court after being caught illegally planting and growing marijuana in Mondulkiri province.

Lor Sokha, the provincial police commissioner, said authorities have opened an investigation to determine if they are part of a network and to possibly find the mastermind.

On April 15, the police raided an illegal marijuana farm where more than 10,000 marijuana plants were discovered.

Two Vietnamese nationals, present on the scene, were arrested and the drug production was burned by the authorities.

Police said that the farm was located in Me Pai village, Pou Chrei commune, Pech Chreada district, Mondulkiri province. It was around 1 hectare big.

The marijuana plants have only been planted a few weeks ago, between March and April, and were not yet ready to be harvested. It takes between six to eight months for a marijuana plant to grow and mature.

“We cracked down on time, they have not been exported yet,” said Sokha.
