PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia on Monday awarded the government's honorable medal decorations to a team of 17 traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) specialists after they completed their 14-month mission in helping the kingdom fight COVID-19 and other diseases.

Cambodia's Health Minister Mam Bunheng presented the "Knight Class" medals to them at a ceremony in Phnom Penh, which was also attended by Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wentian.

"The honorable medals were conferred in recognition of their contributions to helping treat patients and train Cambodian medical staff in using TCM," he said.

Bunheng said the Chinese medical team brought the effective clinical experience of TCM in fighting against the epidemic to Cambodia, bringing high-level medical technology to the country, and winning widespread praise from all sectors of Cambodian society.

For his part, Wang hailed the TCM experts for their efforts to help treat Cambodian patients, saying that their work has not only saved lives, but also helped deepen China-Cambodia relations.

"You are all the ambassadors of the ironclad friendship between China and Cambodia and the contributors to building a community of health for mankind," the ambassador said.

The Chinese medical team specializing in TCM to aid Cambodia in the fight against COVID-19 arrived in the Southeast Asian country in March 2022.
