PHNOM PENH-- Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has renewed his call on all journalists to jointly fight against fake news, according to his message on Friday.

In the message to the Editor Forum of Cambodia, which was held here, Hun Sen said fake news is posing a severe threat to individual's rights, national security and political stability in Cambodia as well as in the region and in the world.

"I'd like to call on all national and international journalists working in Cambodia to properly adhere to the professional code of ethics, to keep developing your own capacities, and to keep finding ways against fake news," he said.

The prime minister encouraged them to report the truth in order to contribute to maintaining peace, political stability, and development, and to enhancing democracy and human rights.

"The government really needs the media outlets that are accountable and sincere to the professional code of ethics," Hun Sen said. "Journalists must dare to tell the truth with constructive criticism."

He added that journalists must avoid reporting on fake news that could lead to armed conflict, chaos, or insecurity in the country.
