PHNOM PENH – Billiards champion Sruong Pheavy has spoken of her happiness after arriving home in Cambodia to prepare for the 32nd SEA Games for the first time.

Pheavy says the chance to represent her country in the Games is like a dream come true.

“I have been living in South Korea for ten years, and this is the first time that I am coming to Cambodia on the last day of the Khmer New Year,” she said.

“I did not expect that I could have a chance to represent Cambodia and have a competition on Cambodian land.

“When I lived in South Korea, I always wanted to set up a sports training center to help kids and other people, but I never thought I could have a chance to involve myself in such big competitions as the SEA Games in Cambodia."

LPBA world champion Pheavy will represent Cambodia in the carom billiards game.

Despite having accomplished much in competitions in South Korea, the 33-year-old will not underestimate her opponents. She says she will focus on the competition from stage to stage to beat the competition.

She will do her best to bring victory for Cambodia and to help promote Cambodia's image internationally through the carom billiards games.

In addition to the SEA Games, she will also help promote the value of Cambodian women more widely, as well as help poor Cambodian children.

In the future, Cambodia will have a carom billiards competition, with Pheavy collaborating with the Cambodian Billiards Federation to organize competitions twice a year to promote and advance human resources.

The 33-year-old athlete, who helps promote Cambodia and the values of Cambodian women in South Korea, was born in Tbong Khmum province and has been living in South Korea for more than 10 years after marrying a Korean man.

Cambodia will host the Games from May 5 to 17, featuring 37 kinds of sport and one demonstration sport. The country will also host the 12th ASEAN Para Games from June 3 to 9, featuring 14 sports.
