PM Discusses Strengthening Ties With Thai FM

PHNOM PENH – Prime Minister Hun Manet has praised the strong ties between Cambodia and Thailand which have strengthened and expanded cooperation.



The PM spoke on June 27 at a meeting with Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa who is visiting Cambodia officially for the first time after assuming the post in April.



Hun Manet said that he had talked with Maris about the economy, trade, people-to-people exchanges, tourism, security, energy and cooperation on demining activities.



Thailand’s top diplomat said that he will work to strengthen the relationship between the countries, expand cooperations and was ready to work closely with the Cambodian government for the mutual benefit of both peoples and countries, according to a statement posted on Hun Manet’s Facebook page.



Thailand’s Foreign Ministry said that two side welcomed dynamic Thailand-Cambodia ties and looked forward to elevating cooperation as well as cooperation within multilateral frameworks, especially ASEAN.



Cambodia and Thailand elevated relations to strategic partnership during Hun Manet’s official visit to Bangkok in February. As the two neighboring countries celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties next year, Hun Manet said that it indicated a strong relationship and long-term cooperation.



Cambodia will open new consulate-general in southern province Songkhla while Thailand will open one in Siem Reap province as two sides are looking to facilitate people-to-people exchanges. 



Hun Manet praised the strong ties and cooperation between the countries. Through this good relationship, cooperation between the countries in many fields had been strengthened and expanded.



Maris also met with Senate President Hun Sen. The Thai Foreign Ministry wrote in social media X that the courtesy call was “to deepen Thailand-Cambodia friendship and close cooperation, continued engagement, and to strengthen strategic partnership.”



Cambodian Foreign Minister Sok Chenda Sophea was set to hold talks with Maris later in the day.
