Police and Armed Forces Warned over Vehicle Misuse

PHNOM PENH – Interior Minister Sar Sokha has warned that police will lose their vehicles if they are misused or lent to others.

The threat came during the closing ceremony of the meeting to review the 2023 work and set working directions for 2024.

“Some vehicles with police license plates were seen at casinos or karaoke,” Sokha said on Feb. 29 at the Ministry of Interior.

“Vehicles cannot be lent to others. The General Commissariat of National Police and provincial police commissioner should pay closer attention to police license plates drivers. In case it is necessary or illegal, those vehicles should be withdrawn immediately.

“Most notably, we have seen the number of police license plates in the provinces has increased,” Sokha said.

The Ministry of National Defense also warned drivers with Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) license plates who inflict harm on society and which could harm the ministry’s reputation.

Recently, traffic accidents caused by drivers with military license plates sparked criticism from the public. Military officers being arrogant was also one of the critiques, which could damage the ministry’s reputation.

According to the General Department of Technical Equipment of the Ministry of National Defense, only army chiefs with full privileges can drive vehicles with RCAF plates.

“In case of misuse of these RCAF license plates, the General Department will take legal proceedings,” the ministry warned.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of National Defense called upon all units under the ministry, commanders, and all specialized military troops to strictly follow the ministry’s instructions.
