PHNOM PENH – Police will carry out further investigations to find anyone else linked to the escape of a drugs convict from a Siem Reap dental clinic.

Chen Hsin Han was arrested in Phnom Penh along with three others on Aug. 22, five days after his escape.

This brought the number arrested in the case to 11. Those arrested are of different nationalities, including Chinese-Taiwanese, Cambodian-American and Turkish.

Mak Chito, the Deputy National Police Commissioner in charge of drug crimes, said police will keep searching for other members of the group to arrest them and ensure that such a case won’t happen again.

He said that based on the investigation, Chen Hsin Han used four aliases for illegal activities and was suspected of drug trafficking and money laundering.  Police are working with Interpol on it.

The criminal group had planned to free the prisoner for two months in the US and flew to Cambodia for a geographical investigation for two weeks.

On Aug, 17, four gunmen stormed the clinic to free Chen Hsin Han after he was sent there for treatment. The 45-year-old had been sentenced to 52 years in prison after being arrested in 2009.

He faces a possible life sentence after being rearrested. Police are preparing documents for the court.
