PHNOM PENH – Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa will officially visit Cambodia on June 27 at the invitation of Foreign Minister Sok Chenda Sophea.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said they would discuss strengthening the relationship.

They will also explore ways to expand cooperation after upgrading the relations to Strategic Partnership, which was agreed by Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin during Hun Manet’s visit to Thailand in February.

Both ministers also expect to exchange views on regional and international issues of common interest.

Maris will also pay courtesy calls on Senate President Hun Sen and Hun Manet.

Maris, a former diplomat, was appointed foreign minister in late April. The Bangkok Post quoted him on June 16 as talking about “the importance of maintaining a good relationship with neighbouring countries because it will help strengthen Thailand's stability.”

“Thailand will also focus on an initiative called ‘Six Countries, One Destination’, to bring neighbouring countries to work together on tourism,” he said.
