PHNOM PENH – Cambodia’s Burn X Flash (BXF) got in fourth place in the Mobile Legends Bang Bang Southeast Asia Cup 2023 (MSC 2023) after the team was defeated by the Philippines’ ECHO 2-3 on June 17.

After losing to Blacklist International (BLCK) and afterward to ONIC in the semi-finals, BXF and ECHO fought against each other to win third place. The winner was decided after five matches, making it the longest battle between two opponents in the Knockout Stage due to the two teams’ continuous comebacks.

BXF was defeated in the first match with only five kills while ECHO got 16 kills. Although BXF players were doing their job well in defending their Base Turret at first, ECHO still managed to destroy it in their second attempt with the team’s second Lord in the 17th minute.

BXF, however, made a comeback in the second match, defeating ECHO at the 17th minute by advancing to the Base Turret through the Gold Lane and Mid Lane without the Lord although they had slain him. ECHO’s three members could not defend against BXF’s five pushing members.

Nevertheless, the third match gave the Cambodian team high hopes after BXF defeated the ECHO team again in more than 22 minutes. The match gave both the players and the fans a roller-coaster experience with the intense fight twice at BXF’s Base Turret.

One of ECHO’s members, Sanji, advanced to the Base Turret directly with a few minions with the aim of destroying the turret while other players were fighting around the Lord. However, BXF’s ATM killed the hero in a timely manner and saved the turret when it was nearly destroyed.

Almost happening again, ECHO still did not manage to destroy the turret even on the second try, giving BXF the chance, with their third Lord, to proceed to destroy the Base Turret through the Mid Lane in less than three minutes.

Unfortunately for the BXF team, the ECHO team made their comeback in the next two matches, winning third place for the competition season. ECHO pressured BXF hard throughout the whole games by wiping out all the turrets before moving forward to the Base turret. The fourth match ended in less than 18 minutes while ECHO only took less than 14 minutes to finish BXF in the last match.

After all the hard work, BXF ended up losing to ECHO, getting fourth place.

The team will not repeat the same mistakes when playing in the next tournaments such as the M5 competition or the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League Philippines (MPL 2023), said team manager Te Tek Heng, known as Lee Xin, during the press conference.

Burn X Flash’s Journey to Join the top four of MSC 2023

Starting on June 10, Burn X Flash (BXF) fought its first battle against Indonesia’s ONIC and lost 0-2. However, the team won against North America’s Outplay 2-0 on June 13 during the group stage battle.

BXF stepped up to the Knockout Stage, and earned a victory against the Singapore’s RSG Slate SG (RSG) 3-0 on June 15, moving to the semi-finals. The team made history by making a Cambodian E-Sport team climb to that stage.

“I am proud to be one of the players representing Cambodia in the MSC and also make history for MLBB,” said team member Sou Mara, nicknamed Chma. “My pen still has ink, so I want to write more [history].”

Facing the Philippines’ Blacklist International (BLCK) on June 17 in the semi-finals, the BXF, however, was defeated by 1-3, which left the BXF with a competition to decide for the third place, playing against the Philippines’ ECHO who lost to Indonesia’s ONIC 0-3 the same day.
