PHNOM PENH –  Gunmen have freed a Chinese drugs convict after storming a dental clinic where he was being treated in central Siem Reap.

Chen Hsin Han, the 45-year-old convict, had been sentenced to 52 years in prison after being arrested on Feb. 11, 2009, police said.

About five men wearing masks and gloves, who were also believed to be Chinese, raided the clinic in Svay Dangkum commune on the morning of Aug. 17.

Four prison officers who had taken the convict to the clinic were tied up.

The gunmen escaped in a Lexus 330 with the license plate Phnom Penh 2AA-4315.

A few hours later, the car was found and dumped in Kruos village in Sangkat Svay Dangkum in Siem Reap city with five pistols and some other materials.

Authorities joined forces for a careful search but as of the afternoon of Aug. 17 had not received any leads.

On social media, people expressed shock at seeing real scenes like in a movie.
